PLIDA (Dante Alighieri Italian Language Project) is a certification degree released from the Dante Alighieri Society according to an agreement with the italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs (n.1903 - 04/11/1993). The PLIDA attests competences in Italian as a foreign language on a scale of six levels, which represent the relative phases of learnig. These six levels, from A1 to C2, in progression of difficulty, correspond to the levels of the Common European Framework.

Since 2000 the Cyprus' committee is the board of certification of PLIDA exams on the island.

From the table of levels is possible to obtain also the equivalence of each level in comparison to the parameters of the IV Modern Languages Division of the Council of Europe as indicated in the document: Modern Languages: Learning, Teaching, Assessment. A Common European Framework of Reference, Strasburgo 1998 (rif. CC-LANG (9%) 5 rev. V).
